2025 Referee Certification Clinic

The Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Association (NLBHA) is pleased to announce our final Referee Certification/Recertification Clinics of the season:

Wednesday June 4
Time : 6:30pm 
Location : Ascension Highschool 
 
Sunday, June 8 
Time: 5:30pm
Location: Glendenning Golf Course.

Note: Participants are asked to bring a pen to complete the written exam.

Clinic fees are $60 and must be sent via EMT to treasurer@nlbha.com. Cash will not be accepted.

Sanctioned Leagues

Sanctioning in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) involves ensuring that sporting events and activities adhere to established rules, regulations, and safety standards, promoting a safe and equitable environment for all participants. Key aspects include adhering to provincial/territorial rules, utilizing appropriate facilities and equipment, and ensuring proper officiating. It also involves preventing maltreatment and fostering a respectful and inclusive atmosphere. 

Key Aspects of Sanctioned Sports in NL:

  • Adherence to Rules and Regulations:
    Sanctioned events must follow the rules set by governing bodies like Sport NL and provincial/territorial branches of national sports organizations.
     
    Safe and Equitable Environment:
    Sanctioning ensures a safe and equitable environment for all participants, regardless of age, gender, or ability. This includes implementing measures to prevent and address maltreatment, as outlined in the Universal Code of Conduct.
     
    Proper Facilities and Equipment:
    Sanctioned events must be held in suitable facilities and utilize appropriate equipment as per relevant rules.
     
    Qualified Officiating:
    Competitions require appropriately qualified and certified officials.
     
    Sanctioning Guidelines:

    Provincial and territorial organizations have specific guidelines for sanctioning events, including requirements for applications and adherence to rules.

     
    Safe Sport Practices:
    Implementing measures to promote safe sport practices, including background screening, ethics training, and the Rule of Two.
     
    Responsible Coaching Movement:

    Promoting responsible coaching practices through training and resources, focusing on areas like ethics, respect, and background screening.

     
    Addressing Maltreatment:

    Providing a system for addressing complaints of maltreatment, with an independent third-party overseeing cases.

     
    Support for Grassroots Activities:
    Supporting grassroots sport participation and ensuring accessibility for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, especially in less-serviced areas.
     
    Promoting Excellence:
    Integrating with Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) to help participants achieve their long-term goals in sport. Eligibility for awards such as Premier’s Athletic Awards, Sport NL Awards, etc.

Male U23 NL Selects Tryout Announcement

Male U23 NL Selects Tryout Announcement

NLBHA is happy to announce that the Male U23 NL Selects will travel to the U23 National Championship from July 22 to July 26 in Mississauga, Ontario. We ask interested players to please email donny.gosse@pennecon.com or contact Donny Gosse at (709)690-6925 to confirm attendance.

The tryout will be on May 15 from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Buckmaster Circle Gym.

Note: The team will also play in the 2025 Molson Senior Men’s Summer League and the NLBHA Men’s A Provincials.

Nathanial Duffett Hired As Executive Director

The Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Association announced today that Nathanial Duffett of Bonavista has been hired as the provincial association’s new Executive Director. 

Nathanial has been a dedicated ball hockey player with the NLBHA and has also coached with the NL Selects program. With his ball hockey experience both as a player and administrator, and his passion for our sport, we expect he will be a great addition to our staff!

U18 Interlocking League Announcement

U18 Interlocking League Announcement

The NLBHA is announcing a U18 Interlocking League, designed to develop competitive organized ball hockey in the metro region. It’ll be for players born in 2007, 2008, and 2009. The league will follow CBHA rules and comprise teams from four different boundaries. 


CBN Stars:
Clarenville High School, Tricentia Academy, Crescent Collegiate, Ascension Collegiate, Carbonear Collegiate, and Laval High School.

Leading Edge: Queen Elizabeth Regional High, Holy Spirit High School, and Roncolli Central High. 

Metro Minor: Gonzaga High School, Holy Heart, Prince of Wales Collegiate, Holy Trinity High, St. Bonaventure’s College, and Waterford Valley High. 

West Side United: Mount Pearl Senior High, O’Donel High, St. Kevin’s High School, and Mobile Central High

The league will comprise an eight-game regular season schedule and then a short playoff. It will run from May 26 to July 6.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Association (NLBHA) is pleased to announce job openings for the prestigious 2025 CBHA Junior National Championships. We are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join the Team NL Selects as Trainers/Equipment Managers. Join us in representing Newfoundland and Labrador on the National stage!

Interested candidates are invited to submit their ball hockey resume along with a cover letter indicating their desired position (include why you should be considered for this position) to the NLBHA Executive Director by e-mail to executivedirector@ballhockeynl.ca

Location: Mississauga, Ontario – July 28– Aug 2, 2025

The Trainer/Equipment Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Emergency response on and off the floor as required
  • Ensure safe handover of any injured player to appropriate medical response teams
  • Assessment and treatment of player injuries before, during and after games, and/or practices
  • Document all injuries according to NLBHA and CBHA policy
  • Reporting all injuries to coaching staff in a timely and professional manor
  • Providing nutritional/hydration advice to players for pre-game, in game and post -game meals and snacks as well as monitoring in accordance with appropriate medical advice
  • Management of pre-game warm-up and post-game cool-down
  • Management, upkeep and repair of player equipment; 
  • Prepare and maintain a safe and clean dressing room space, including
  • Stall preparation
  • Ensuring proper drying techniques
  • General dressing room upkeep
  • Team supply setup and maintenance
  • Laundry
  • Bench setup
  • Ensure all team equipment complies with CBHA rules and regulations.
