2023 Evaluation & Selection Camp Information

2023 NLBHA Evaluation and Selection Camp Information

The Newfoundland Labrador Ball Hockey Association selection camps will be held on May 19-22 and June 09-11 at the Goulds Arena and the Ken Williams Arena.

 

All athletes vying for a position on a NLBHA provincial team are encouraged to attend both camps listed above. The NLBHA evaluation committee reserves the right to limit the number of players that will attend the selection camps on June 09 -11. To be selected for a provincial team, athletes must attend at least one of these provincial selection camps in full.

 

Opportunities may be provided to registered athletes living outside of Newfoundland and Labrador. In order to do so, athletes must request another selection opportunity in writing to the VP Minor (minor@ballhockeynl.ca) or the Female Coordinator (female@ballhockeynl.ca) by April 30.

For those athletes in Labrador, a NLBHA selection camp will be held in Labrador.  On March 27, details regarding date, time, and venue for the Labrador camp will be finalized and communicated. 

 

The following is a list of Newfoundland Labrador Ball Hockey Association provincial teams that will participate in the 2023 Canadian Ball Hockey Association junior nationals.

Women’s 4 on 4 Winter 2023 Ball Hockey Season registration is now open!
 
Location: Northpoint Sports Facility located on 42 O’Leary Avenue, St. John’s

Day/Time: Saturdays between 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM – [Depending on the number of participants]

Season Length: Minimum of 10 weeks of Hockey.

Start Date | End Date: Saturday January 28, 2023 to Saturday April 8-15, 2023

Game Length: 3 X 15 min periods. [run clock]

All-Star Mini Tournament + Skills Competition.

Season’s End Celebration.

Cost: Only $160.00 per player plus $20.00 [Refundable Jersey Fee]
and $85.00 per goalie plus $20.00 [Refundable Jersey Fee]
 
Insurance Fee: $15.00 [19+] per player and $10.00 [18 Under] per player, players who were registered for a sanctioned NLBHA/CBHA event/league or program after April 1, 2022, will not have to pay for the insurance fee for the *Winter 2023 season.

Canadian Junior National Ball Hockey Championships are coming to Newfoundland and Labrador from July 26 – 29, 2023.

How would you like to play in front of your friends and family?

NL Selects Provincial Teams will be having tryouts for the following divisions: 15U, 17U and 19U and Female 16U and 19U.

Anyone interested in trying out for NL Selects Provincial Teams must register between Dec 1, 2022 to Feb 28, 2023.

2022 11U Female Jamboree

2022 11U Female Jamboree

Location/Date:  St. John’s – Saturday November 5, 2022 – North Point Sports, 42 O’ Leary Avenue

Number of Teams:  6 (first-come, first-served)

Age: Girls born in 2011 or 2012

Number of Teams: 6 (first-come, first-served)

Game Length: 36 minutes running time = 3 minute shift x 12 shifts

Number of Games: Three (3) games per team

Team Roster: 8 players + 1 goalie

Team Entry Fee: $270 per 11U team. Fee includes a dri-fit NLBHA t-shirt per player. Entry fee must be submitted by October 24 to the NLBHA treasurer at the time of registration. Entry fee payment is to be made via EMT to treasurer@nlbha.com (no password required). Team name and uniform color must be included in the EMT message.

Insurance Fee: $10 insurance fee per player for any player that is not part of a registered NLBHA program. 

NOTE: This insurance fee is an annual NLBHA insurance fee that allows players to participate in NLBHA events and be covered by insurance from April 1, 2022 – March 31, 2023.

Team Registration Form: Please use the team registration form found at https://ballhockeynl.ca/registration/ 

Team Roster Form: Will be sent to teams that register by October 24. Team Rosters must be provided to the NLBHA registrar at least three days prior to the start of a 11U jamboree.

Officials: NLBHA will facilitate and officiate each jamboree game. There will be a facility convener/NLBHA convener present.

Coaches/Volunteers: must register at

https://ballhockeynl.ca/volunteerregistration/ with the NLBHA prior to coaching at any NLBHA event or tournament.

EQUIPMENT

Helmets/Facial Protection All players are required to wear a CSA approved helmet (this includes goaltenders). In minor ball hockey, all players are required to wear full facial protection.

Goaltenders are permitted to wear street hockey goaltender equipment (however, helmets must be CSA approved). 

Sticks Plastic sticks are not permitted.

Shin pads are mandatory in minor ball hockey. Only soft covered shin pads may be worn outside the clothing. All hard covered shin pads with the exception of those specifically designed for ball hockey must be covered by pants or socks. Soccer shin pads are permitted. They must be covered by socks or pants.

The use of gloves is mandatory. Ice hockey, ball hockey or lacrosse gloves are recommended. Gloves must have proper wrist protection and the wrist protection must be closed. Palm-less/fingerless gloves are not permitted.

Other Recommended Equipment include jill and elbow pads.
